June 22, 2026 – Placer County Sheriff’s Office officials report that a hiker who was reported missing in the Alta area has been located
safe and is doing well.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office was notified Wednesday evening after a friend became concerned when the 53-year-old man did not return from a planned multi-day hiking trip. The man had started his hike on Sunday and told loved ones he expected to return by Tuesday.
When he did not return as planned, a friend went to the Green Valley Trailhead on Wednesday evening to look for him. After locating his vehicle still parked at the trailhead, the friend contacted the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies worked through the night gathering information about the hiker’s possible route and last known movements.
Search and Rescue volunteers assembled this morning, and the Falcon 30 crew launched to assist from the air. The helicopter crew located the hiker, landed nearby, and safely transported him from the area. He was evaluated by medical personnel and is doing just fine.
This incident highlights the importance of letting others know where you are going and when you expect to return. Because the hiker shared his plans and expected return date with loved ones, searchers had critical information that helped guide the search effort.
Thank you to our Search and Rescue volunteers, Falcon 30 crew, and all personnel involved in bringing this operation to a safe conclusion.
