July 3, 2026 – Mariposa County Health & Human Services officials offer holiday weekend safety tips.
Preparing to head to the water this holiday weekend, be sure you and your loved ones are practicing water safety. Warmer temperatures can increase the amount of water in the Merced River and other rivers in surrounding counties. And while it might be tempting to cool off by the river, the water still poses a severe safety risk.
Every year we experience significant losses in California due to accidental drownings; our situation is only worsened by the considerable amount of snow and rain we received this year.
Check out these tips to help you, and others stay safe around all bodies of water this season.
