July 12, 2026 – Placer County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Friday, July 10, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a Placer County Sheriff’s deputy observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe speeding near the intersection of Gladding Road and Riosa Road in a rural area outside of Lincoln.
The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop, leading deputies on a brief pursuit. During the pursuit, the SUV reached speeds of approximately 90 mph on rural roadways. The pursuit lasted just a few minutes.
The driver then left the road and drove into a field in the area of McCourtney Road and Fleming Road. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle, but continued searching the area. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter, Falcon 30, located the SUV in a remote area off the road.
Falcon 30 inserted a deputy into the area to assist deputies who had reached the crash site on the ground. As deputies approached the vehicle, they found the driver in need of medical attention.
Deputies immediately removed the driver from the SUV and began lifesaving measures. Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A full investigation is now underway. The California Highway Patrol will handle the crash portion of the investigation.
