July 14, 2026 – Frenchman Lake (Chilcoot, CA) – Plumas County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at approximately 11:21 a.m., Plumas County emergency dispatchers received a Text-to-911 reporting a boating collision involving a personal watercraft and a recreational boat near the Frenchman Lake Boat Launch.

Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to the scene, where lifesaving efforts were immediately initiated. Despite those efforts, the adult female operator of the personal watercraft was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The decedent has been identified as Sandra Ann Skender, 47-years-old, of Reno, NV.

The preliminary investigation indicates the incident involved a collision between a personal watercraft and a recreational boat on Frenchman Lake.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Ms. Skender during this difficult time.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all responding agencies and personnel for their professionalism and assistance, including the Plumas County Boat Patrol, the United States Forest Service, Care Flight, Eastern Plumas Health Care Ambulance, Beckwourth Peak Fire, and all deputies and emergency responders who assisted with the incident and subsequent investigation.

The investigation remains active. No additional information is being released at this time.
