July 22, 2026 – Placer County Sheriff’s Office officials report that a deputy narrowly escaped being struck by an alleged drunk driver while investigating a hit-and-run crash in Loomis Friday night.

At 10:20 p.m. on July 17, the deputy was investigating a hit-and-run crash at Taylor Road and Horseshoe Bar Road. The truck involved in the crash had been pulled to the shoulder, and the three people who were inside were standing on the sidewalk while the deputy documented the scene.

As the deputy stood on the shoulder taking photos, a pickup truck driven by a driver later determined to be under the influence of alcohol came within inches of hitting him as he sideswiped the parked truck. The deputy was able to jump out of the way at the last second, avoiding what could have been a tragic outcome. The three people standing nearby were not hurt.

The driver continued for about a block on Taylor Road, nearly hitting several pedestrians before crashing into a tree.

The driver was arrested and booked into the Placer County Jail on multiple charges, including hit and run, DUI, and driving under the influence with prior convictions.
