This Bill Comes at a Time When New Reporting Shows Pentagon Reclassified Recent Servicemember Deaths and Injuries, Removing Them from Official War Casualty Count

August 15, 2026 - WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has joined her Senate colleagues in introducing legislation that would restore full and accurate casualty records of fallen and wounded servicemembers in Donald Trump’s war in Iran. The Honoring the Sacrifices of Our Troops in War Act would also bar Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth from manipulating casualty records in an attempt to hide the true human costs of the war. Senator Rosen recently joined Senate colleagues in demanding Hegseth release a full and accurate accounting of all servicemembers killed, wounded, or injured in support of Operation Epic Fury in July.

“The Trump Administration’s decision to reclassify and dishonor the deaths of our servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war in Iran is disgraceful and beyond the pale,” said Senator Rosen. “This legislation would immediately restore the casualty records of our fallen and wounded servicemembers, and ensure no other Administration can ever do this again.” 

Senator Rosen has demanded more transparency from the Trump Administration regarding the war in Iran. Senator Rosen recently joined her Senate colleagues in demanding answers from the Department of Defense over the tragic U.S. bombing of an Iranian elementary school in February. Senator Rosen has voted for every War Powers Resolution to remove U.S. troops from Iran since the beginning of the war earlier this year. During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing this June, Senator Rosen pressed Secretary of State Marco Rubio over his absence from Iran negotiations.
