Plane Down in Porterville
September 2, 2026 – Tulare County Sheriff’s Office officials report that just before 11:45 a.m. on September 1, 2026, TCSO Deputies were called to the area of Teapot Dome and Newcomb near the Porterville airport for an airplane down.
When they arrived, Deputies found a plane down, with smoke showing in a field near the airport. Luckily, all six passengers, including the pilot, were able to get out safely.
Update: Tulare County Sheriff’s Office later learned more about a plane that went down in the area of Newcomb and Teapot Dome in Porterville around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
When Deputies arrived, they saw smoke coming from the plane and learned the plane had been trying to land when it slid off the runway and came to rest in a nearby field.
Thankfully, all six people on board, including the two pilots, were able to safely get off the plane.

Several roads in the area were temporarily closed to allow emergency crews to safely access the scene and begin their work. People were asked to please avoid the area and allow first responders to do their jobs.
