September 3, 2026 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that at around 3:00 p.m. this past Monday, a group of students on a class field trip were swimming in Shaver Lake. During this time, a 17-year-old boy began struggling to stay above water. In a panic, he called out for help. Another 17-year-old boy who was part of his group, heard him and immediately swam out to help him. This boy, who has lifeguard training, was able to successfully bring his friend safely to shore.
Sheriff's deputies and EMS personnel responded to check on the boy. It was determined he had not eaten or drank water in a while, contributing to him becoming weak while swimming.
