September 9, 2026 - WASHINGTON, DC – On Tuesday, as Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on imports from the United States go into effect, Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released a statement about the harmful impact of Donald Trump’s trade policies. Canada is Nevada’s second-largest export market, with Nevada exporting $1.6 billion of goods to Canada every year, and is the top source of international tourism to Nevada. 

“Canada is one of Nevada’s top trading partners, and the only thing that Donald Trump’s reckless attack on our neighbor to the north has accomplished is further devastation of Nevada’s economy with higher prices on everyday essentials and a decline in tourism,” said Senator Rosen. “Since Trump began his wholly unnecessary trade war with Canada, Nevada has seen a decline in Canadian tourists, and now their retaliatory tariffs will hurt Nevada exporters and small businesses. None of this would’ve happened had it not been for Trump’s ill-conceived trade war, which is why he needs to put an end to it and mend relationships with Canada so we can get Nevada’s economy back on track.” 

Senator Rosen has consistently opposed Trump’s across-the-board tariffs and worked to provide relief to Nevada families. Last month, ahead of the new school year, she helped introduce a bill to exempt school supplies from tariffs. Following the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down some of Trump’s illegal tariffs, Senator Rosen joined her Democratic Senate colleagues in introducing a bill to protect small businesses and their consumers from further tariff-related harm. Earlier this year, she introduced bills to exclude homebuilding materials and groceries from Trump’s tariffs, which would help lower costs for families.
