Senator Rosen Released a Statement Earlier This Month Denouncing Trump’s Trade War with Canada

September 18, 2026 - WASHINGTON, D.C. – As prices continue to rise as a result of Donald Trump’s trade wars and as Canada enacts retaliatory tariffs on American products, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined Senate colleagues in introducing a bill that would revoke Trump’s 50 percent tariffs on Canada. The Banning Antiquated Duties and Delivering Equitable American Levies (BAD DEAL) Act would repeal Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930–the previously unused trade authority Trump used against Canada–and refund all duties paid under this authority.

“As prices continue to skyrocket, Donald Trump’s reckless economic and foreign policies have wreaked havoc on the budgets of hardworking Americans. This senseless trade war with Canada, Nevada’s second-largest trade partner, will only hurt our economy and raise costs for families even more,” said Senator Rosen. “I am proud to help introduce this bill to rein in Trump’s ability to unilaterally set reckless tariffs, and will continue to fight back against any policy that takes money away from the pockets of American families.”

Senator Rosen has consistently opposed Trump’s across-the-board tariffs and worked to provide relief to Nevada families. Last month, ahead of the new school year, she helped introduce a bill to exempt school supplies from tariffs. Following the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down some of Trump’s illegal tariffs, Senator Rosen joined her Democratic Senate colleagues in introducing a bill to protect small businesses and their consumers from further tariff-related harm. Earlier this year, she introduced bills to exclude homebuilding materials and groceries from Trump’s tariffs, which would help lower costs for families.
