March 4, 2017 - The Mariposa County January 2017 unemployment rate of 8.8% was lower than the January 2016 unemployment rate by .4% when the rate was 9.2%. During January 2017, 620 residents were unemployed. Sixty less residents (-8.8%) from January 2016 when 680 residents were unemployed. 
  
The Leisure and Hospitality industry with 1,550 workers during January 2017 employed 70 additional workers (4.7%) than during December 2016 when 1,480 workers were in the industry. Compared to January 2016 the Leisure and Hospitality industry employed 150 fewer workers (-8.8%) when the industry employed 1,700 workers. 
  
The Government employed fifty additional employees in January 2017 (1,790) compared to January 2016 when 1,740 were employed
  
Construction employment had 140 employees in January 2017.Ten additional employees over January 2016 when the industry employed 130.
  
The Civilian Labor Force came in at 7,040 during January 2017. The Labor Force decreased by 340 (-4.6%) from January 2016 when the Labor Force was at 7,380.
  
There were 6,420 employees in the county during January 2017. 280 fewer employees than January 2016 when 6,700 residents were working in the county. That results in a year to year decrease of 4.2%.
