 Antonio Rocha

Antonio-Rocha-StorytellerAround the World in Six Ways

Ever dreamed of experiencing the many cultures and traditions found around the world? If so, the second weekend of March is your chance to fulfill that dream! Come spend time at Mariposa County Arts Council’s 28th Storytelling Festival, March 13-15, where six outstanding storytelling performances will share tales of adventure, wit, and wisdom from place near and far.

One of these six acclaimed performers, Antonio Rocha, uses mime and sound to engage his audiences as he circles the globe with his unique and fast-paced style. Rocha evokes the jungles of Brazil and Africa and fosters an appreciation for the rainforest’s inhabitants and ecosystem as his snake, jaguar, and turtle characters come alive.

Antonia is a native of Brazil and began his career in the performing arts in 1985. In 1988 he received a ‘Partners of the Americas’ grant to come to the United States to perform and deepen his mime skills while working with Master Tony Montanaro. Since then he has earned a Summa Cum Laude Theater BA from the University of Southern Maine and studied with Marcel Marceau. He has performed all over the world, including ten countries on five continents, most recently in Paris and India. Antonio has been featured in Mariposa’s 2005 and 2010 and this year he will be also performing Storytelling Outreach Programs at schools in Reedley, Selma, Cathey’s Valley, and Fresno.
