MaryGay Ducey, Librarian, Humanitarian, Teacher and Storyteller Supreme

Mary Gay DuceyJoining our group of Storytellers at the Mariposa Arts Council’s 29th Annual Storytelling Festival to be held in Mariposa, California, March 11 to 13, 2016 is MaryGay Ducey, from Berkeley, California.  MaryGay was named among Outstanding Women of Berkeley for her service to the Commission on the Status of Women, telling insightful true stories about the plight of women both in the workplace and in their homes, worldwide.  In her clear, soft voice she holds her listeners spellbound as the actual happenings unfold of human suffering from an early age until the day their lives are no longer useful in the factories and other production lines so prevalent in developing countries.

This recently retired Children’s Librarian at the Oakland Public Library also served as Staff Trainer for volunteer story readers placed in the Oakland Head Start program and taught the art of storytelling at the University of California in Berkeley.  Her style is unique in that it combines delightful flashes of humor with pathos in her presentations and puts the listener into the actual scene upon which the story is based, including those of her own life experiences.
