Jim May

Meet Jim May, Humorist, Conjurer, and Storyteller Supreme

Jim May StorytellerTiny Mariposa township, a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of city living, has a hilarious surprise for you at their 29th annual Mariposa County Arts Council's Storytelling Festival to take place March 11 to 13.  We present Jim May, Emmy Award storyteller, winning author, schoolteacher and humorist, who tells stories of growing up in Spring Grove, Illinois, where trading stories was as common as trading horses. In fact, Jim's father was actually a horse trader who gave him plenty of fodder for his comical tales gathered from the long history of his German Catholic family.

Founder of the Illinois Storytelling Festival, Jim’s background includes performing at the American Library Institute, the National Park Service, Illinois Teenage Institute, as well as numerous Storytelling Festivals and school districts across the nation.  He counts among his achievements, award winning stories, including “Farm On Nippersink Creek, and “Boo Baby Meets the Ghost of Mable’s Gable.” Jim broadcasts regularly on National Public Radio.
