Sharon Bortugno
Watercolor, Pastel

Sharon-BortugnoSharon has painted in Watercolor and Pastel for 17 years. She uses the surrounding outdoors for inspiration and creativity in her workshop. Her motto is, "Everyone who wants to, can become an Artist!"

She teaches watercolor classes in her Home Studio for new or experienced Adults and Children.

Sharon studied painting in school in Southern California. Her mediums of choice are watercolor and pastel.  She loves to make the paint “move.”

Sharon teaches Beginning and Intermediate watercolor classes for adults and children in her Oakhurst/Ahwahnee Home Studio.  She shows her students how to look at surroundings with their ‘artist eye’. This technique teaches them how to see the values of lights, darks and the many shapes and colors of everything around them. Sharon believes “Everyone who wants to, may become an artist.”

Sharon’s award winning paintings have been part of Yosemite Western Artist Exhibits, Tri-County Art Show, Oakhurst Fall Festival, and Gold Rush Art Show over several years. She donates artwork to many Community, School and Charitable organizations throughout the mountain areas each year. Sharon’s artwork may be viewed in Mariposa at the Sierra Artists Gallery and Casto Oaks Wine & Art, as well as her home studio.

Artist Bio: Sharon Bortugno, originally from Toronto Canada, has been painting since childhood. She paints in watercolor and pastel. Watercolor has been her preferred medium for the past 17 years. Sharon’s work is also displayed Mariposa at Sierra Artists Gallery, Casto Oaks Wine & Art, and in Oakhurst at her Home Studio. She teaches watercolor & pastel Art classes weekly for adults & children in her Home Studio located in Oakhurst.

Sharon enjoys seeing the surprised and happy results of new painters learning to paint. She shows students how to look at surroundings with their artist eye, to see all the colors, values of light, shadows and the multiple shapes of things. Her motto is, “Anyone who wants to be a painter, may become one.”

Sharon uses many subjects, and paints ‘plein aire’ (outdoors) in the surrounding mountain areas. She also paints in her studio from photos and sketches made while traveling with her husband, Frank, in their Airstream trailer that is like a little silver gallery.

Sharon won 1st place for her watercolor in the Yosemite Western Artists Tri-County Art Show and Oakhurst Fall Festival Art. She was chosen as Featured Artist of the Mariposa Art & Wine Festival, with her watercolor painting, ‘Old Vines’.
