“When starting a business in California, the first steps are with the Secretary of State’s office. There are many important decisions to make and rules and procedures to follow,” said Secretary Padilla. “Our new online resource page makes the process easier to navigate for aspiring entrepreneurs. Through our online Starting a Business checklist and brochure, we consolidate useful information into a convenient platform that can be accessed anywhere, anytime, on any device.”

“I want to help entrepreneurs succeed, and that begins with good information.  Our new brochure, Starting a New Business in California is a positive and effective way to help new businesses get started,” Padilla added.

The brochure can be viewed online or downloaded for personal use. It outlines 10 steps important for anyone starting the process and includes links to additional resources that will be useful to new business owners.

The new resource page is part of Secretary of State Padilla’s Digital Initiative to modernize and digitize the agency’s divisions, including expanding opportunities for online business filings, digitizing exhibits through the State Archives, creating a mobile app for voters, and continuing a partnership with MapLight that will provide better visualization of campaign finance information.
