Update: 5:00 A.M.  Daily Operations Map for Detwiler Wildfire in Mariposa County for Friday, July 21, 2017

Update: 4:20 A.M.

Detwiler Wildfire in Mariposa County
CAL FIRE: Today’s Objectives
(1) Keep the fire East of Merced County
(2) Keep the fire South of Greeley Hill Road
(3) Keep the fire West of Highway 140 and Highway 49
(4) Keep the fire North of Road 600

Weather Forecast
A warming and drying trend begins today. Expect winds to be slope driven much of the day then shifting to the west-northwest in the afternoon hours. Sheltered areas, especially east aspects, may remain slope driven all afternoon as well. A morning inversion is likely in the valleys with reduced visibility until it breaks.

Fire Behavior
The Detwiler Fire is primarily burning in a mix of grass, grassy-oaks, and brush. The fire is bumping into pockets of tree mortality on the North and East sides of the fire. These areas will create additional spotting issues and a large dead and down component ready for consumption. We are in a persistent forecast and should see burning conditions similar to the last several days. We have seen a slowdown in activity due to smoke shading the fuel and a general reduction of fine dead fuels in the North and North-East sides of the fire. However, the fire has, and can travel 4-6 miles a day to the south-east and actively burning most of the night and the potential for spot fires remains very high.

3:50 A.M - A closer view of the 3:30 A.M. MODIS hot spot map showing the fire near Coulterville.

Thursday afternoons MODIS map (Not published) had quite a few hot spots in North County and one in South County. The South County hot spot was mentioned in last nights meeting in Merced where the officials said they were quick on containing that fire.
