MLJC LogoOctober 23, 2017 - Jewish Life Cycle Seminar: On Sunday, November 12th, the Mother Lode Jewish Community will be hosting its annual Jewish Life Cycle seminar.  It will be held in the broader Sonora area, with the specific location not yet pinned down.  Rabbi Andra Greenwald will focus on the Jewish calendar and will mix in historic aspects, how various rituals and holidays are celebrated today as well as many of the songs and psalms associated with them.  This is a pot-luck brunch, starting at 11:00 A.M.

Annual Chanukah Party: Then on Saturday, December 16th, the 5th night of the Festival of Lights, the MLJC Hanukkah potluck dinner party will be held in Murphys.  This is one of our most festive occasions!  Everyone is encouraged to bring their own family menorahs...the more the better!

Kabbalat Shabbat Gathering:
In Friday, January 19th, 2018 its back to Sonora for a Kabbalat Shabbat.  This gathering will begin with a potluck dinner, then Rabbi Greenwald will lead the group in a traditional service.  On the afternoon of Sunday, February 11th, it’s back to Murphys for a Tu B’Shvat (Festival of the Trees) Seder and tree planting.

All Welcome: All of these gatherings are open at no charge to non-members who wish to participate in the Jewish Community.

The MLJC’s mission is to provide opportunities and events that nurture a vibrant and enduring Jewish identity, culture and community in the Mother Lode, drawing members from Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Mariposa counties.  New members are always welcome.  Please call 209-533-1650 to learn more.  A calendar of future activities can be found at the MLJC website: MotherLodeJewishCommunity.org, includes a list of scheduled gatherings, which take place primarily in the Murphys/Copperopolis and Jamestown/Sonora/Columbia areas.
