February 10, 2018 - The most important law enforcement job in the county will be addressed at the next Mariposa Democratic club meeting on Saturday, February 10 at 9:45 a.m. at the Miners Roadhouse.

District Attorney Thomas Cooke just announced he is not running for re-election, but candidate Walter Wall will be there to tell the audience why he should be elected. Cooke will be present to answer any questions about how the office functions. So far, no other candidates have come forward and the deadline to file paperwork is a month away. The audience is encouraged to ask questions about the future direction of the office.

By law, the District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the county. California law provides the District Attorney’s most essential duty is prosecuting criminal offenses on behalf of the People. The Office is responsible for filing criminal charges, appearing in court in all felony and misdemeanor cases, and representing the people in all trials and sentencing proceedings in the courts of Mariposa County.

Wall is currently working in the Merced District Attorney’s office and lives in Mariposa County. According to his website, Wall has 20 years’ experience practicing law and has participated in many ground breaking legal battles. He considers himself to be a natural leader.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend this important event. People should arrive by 9am if they would like to buy breakfast for themselves. The meeting begins at 9:45am. Free coffee and water will be available.

Anyone wishing to become a member of the Mariposa Democratic Club will be provided a membership form. Dues are $10 annually, or $15 for a family.
