February 13, 2018 - Forest Plan Revision February 2018 Update: Inyo National Forest SCC list.

Good day Valued Stakeholder,

forest plan revision logoIt’s been a while since our last message about the Inyo National Forest’s plan revision but our work hasn’t stopped.

Throughout 2017, the USDA Forest Service shared updates on our progress. For example, the Inyo National Forest updated direction for managing recreation and aquatic habitats, revised the list of rivers eligible for wild and scenic river designation, previewed proposed changes to the Regional Forester’s species of conservation concern list, and clarified information about winter recreation opportunities. To review those updates, please visit our website.

Now, the Inyo National Forest is in the final stages of preparing to issue the revised forest plan, final environmental impact statement and draft record of decision this spring. Based on further analysis of the best available science regarding species occurrence, we propose to add the fisher to the animal list and the rabbit-ear rockcress to the plant list. We are also proposing to remove coyote gila, hidden rockcress, and Lake Tahoe serpentweed from the plant list based on occurrence records.

When the Forest Service issues the revised forest plan, final EIS and draft ROD, people who provided formal comments previously in the revision process will have 60 days to object to the proposed decision. The Forest Service will share specific details about the criteria for filing an objection when the planning documents are released in the coming months.
