March 6, 2018 - U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) on Monday released the following statement and video on the failure of Congress to pass a DACA bill by the March 5 deadline:
“We have to stop allowing committees to put up roadblocks in bringing these different bills to the floor. We should have an open process with full debate, allowing amendments to come up for an American solution. The time to act is now."
Congressman Denham is the author of the H.R. 60, the Encourage New Legalized Immigrants to Start Training (ENLIST) Act, which has gained more than 218 co-sponsors, enough to pass the House of Representatives. The bill – with strong bipartisan support at 101 Republicans and 118 Democrats – would allow otherwise qualified undocumented immigrants brought here by their parents through no fault of their own to earn legal status through military service.
He is also an original co-author of the Uniting and Securing America (USA) Act and Recognizing America’s Children (RAC) Act, as well as a co-sponsor of the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. The most recent of these bills, the USA Act, would protect Dreamers, responsibly secure our southern border through increased surveillance, infrastructure and technology, reduce the immigration case backlog by hiring more judges, and target the flow of immigration at its source in Central America.
