March 6, 2018 - Washington D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Trump Administration failed to respond to Putin’s announcement of a new ICBM allegedly capable of overcoming missile defense systems:

“President Trump’s decision to turn a blind eye to Putin’s overt threats of nuclear aggression puts Russia before the interests of America.  As Commander-in-Chief, the President has no higher duty than keeping the American people safe. 

“Nuclear nonproliferation is a pillar of America’s national security.  Yet, President Trump’s insistence on ramping up warhead production as shown in his recent Nuclear Posture Review encourages further aggression from adversaries such as Putin and risks triggering another arms race.  The President must immediately reverse his pro-nuclear agenda and condemn Putin’s aggression.

“President Trump again and again gives Putin a free pass, from refusing to enact the sanctions that Congress required to refusing to investigate Russia’s attacks on our election systems.  The President’s consistent failure to hold Putin accountable should make us all ask, what do the Russians have on Trump, politically, personally and financially?”
