June 21, 2018 - On Tuesday. Congressman Tom McClintock released this statement on the border:
It is a federal crime to cross the border illegally. If it was not a crime, our borders would be meaningless.
When a person commits a crime, they are arrested. We do not arrest their children. If their children do not have a relative to care for them, we take them into custody until they do. That is the same for U.S. citizens as it is for illegal immigrants.
The President is enforcing our laws as the Constitution commands him to do, and he should have the support of every American who believes in the rule of law. There is a simple protection from being separated from one’s family: don’t break the law. Family separation is not the President’s fault for arresting and prosecuting lawbreakers. It is the lawbreakers’ fault for breaking the laws in the first place.
