On Saturday, May 16, 2015, the JOHN MUIR GEOTOURISM CENTER will celebrate the 6th annual Festival, Theme: The Yosemite Tapestries. The event will also celebrate the John Muir Historic Route from Coulterville and Greeley Hill to Yosemite along J132, established 6 years ago.

JMGC-2015-posterThis year we have a double focus:
#1) A Fun-filled festival for families and especially youth and children.

#2) An Open House at the new Art Gallery on Main Street, in partnership with the JMGC, where the “YOSEMITE TAPESTRIES” can be viewed.

These tapestries previously hung for 40 years in Yosemite National Park.  There will be great fun activities for kids that are educational and entertaining.   A John Muir impersonator will be present and work with kids in addition to other environmental outdoor education teachers with games for all.  There will be experienced hikers, biologist, instructors and the Founder of the “Nature Kids Institute” who is also a Nationally Recognized Film Maker.  “Want to be in the movies?”   Smoky the Bear plans to join us from Stanislaus National Forrest. The Mariposa County School’s “Environmental Outdoor Education Project” in collaboration with the JMGC and the Mariposa County Teachers Association will be participating with activities. The California Highway Patrol will be there teaching the safety installation of car seats.

EXTRA BENEFIT: For the first time ever, this year’s garden sites for the Annual Mariposa Master Gardeners Spring Garden Tour is in the historic communities of Coulterville and Greeley Hill on the same day, Saturday, May 16th, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Our hope is to inspire families and communities to come together for fun, health, recreation and appreciation of, “Learning how they can nurture nature, large of small, at home or away.”  Please plan to come and spend the day!

Live music, food & drink at The Coulter Patio and in the Coulterville Park with a Silent Auction, Door Prizes. Or take a Self- Guided Tour of the Historic Roses and Native drought tolerant Plant Garden. Visit the new art gallery.

FUN FOR ALL FROM 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 16th in Historic Coulterville.
