On May 13, the Mariposa County Fire Department brought the Fire Safety House to the SFCS campus.

In small groups, all students went into the house to learn about fire safety.

First, students were asked questions to engage them and find out what they already know. Then the firefighters and students discussed how to be safe if a fire occurs. Students were told how their family should have a meeting spot, how they should safely get out of their house, and what they should do if they catch on fire.

Next, a firefighter put on his fire gear for the students to see. He talked about each piece of equipment and why it is necessary to wear when he goes into a house fire.

After that, the safety house was filled with a smoke-like substance so that students could practice how to safely exit the house and go to their meeting place.

Finally, each student had a chance to practice dialing 9-1-1 so that they could be aware of the questions they would be asked if they ever really do need to call about a fire.

The Mariposa County Fire Department did a fantastic job educating students about fire safety.
