May 29, 2015- Senator Tom Berryhill (R-Twain Harte) and Assemblyman Frank Bigelow (R-O’Neals) honored Amanda Kirkeby and her family during today’s legislative session at the California State Capitol. Amanda was recognized for her recent selection as the 2015 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Athlete of the Year.

The Mammoth High School senior has a 4.25 GPA, is ranked second in her class academically and is a member of the school’s varsity Nordic skiing, track & field and volleyball teams. Amanda has received numerous academic, athletic and extra-curricular honors and recognitions throughout her high school career. She is headed to Middlebury College (Vermont) in the fall.

“It is a pleasure to introduce my colleagues to a homegrown superstar from the 8th Senate District,” commented Berryhill. “She is a credit to California, her community, family and the young people of today. If Amanda is any indication of the future – we are in pretty good shape.”

Since 1982, the CIF scholarship award identifies student-athletes who excel in the classroom, athletics, and are strong contributors to their schools and communities. The winners of the CIF Scholarship were selected from a pool of 432 candidates representing 1,554 CIF member schools statewide. Farmers Insurance Group sponsors the CIF competition.

“Judging by today’s applause on the Senate floor, I am pretty sure I speak for my colleagues when I say congratulations for a job well done and much success in college,” Berryhill concluded.
