July 11, 2022 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports a Heat Advisory is in effect for the San Joaquin Valley, West Side Hills, lower Sierra foothills and the Kern River Valley from 10 AM PDT this morning until 10 PM PDT this evening.

High temperatures will be between 102 and 107 degrees in the San Joaquin Valley and West Side Hills this afternoon, and between 98 and 103 degrees in the lower Sierra foothills and the Kern River Valley.

Heat sensitive people and those who are new to the area will be most prone to heat illness.

Dehydration and prolonged exposure or strenuous physical activity outdoors during the hottest time of this afternoon could lead to heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke.

If you have to be outside this afternoon, wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water, and wear light colored, loose fitting clothing.

* WHAT...In the San Joaquin Valley and Coastal Range, high
  temperatures 102 to 107 degrees this afternoon. In the Kern
  River Valley and Sierra Nevada foothills, high temperatures 98
  to 103 degrees this afternoon.

* WHERE...The San Joaquin Valley, Coastal Range, Kern River
  Valley, and Sierra Nevada foothills.

* WHEN...From 10 AM PDT this morning until 10 PM PDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Dehydration and prolonged exposure or physical
  activity outdoors could lead to heat exhaustion and/or heat
  stroke. Heat-sensitive people and those who are new to the area
  will be most prone to heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Reduce time outdoors, drink plenty of water, and remain in an
air-conditioned room. Young children and pets should never be
left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
