Squaw Valley Man Who Shot at Deputies, Dies by Suicide

August 13, 2022 - Shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, deputies serving on the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team discovered a wanted suspect to be dead by suicide. 62-year-FCSO D Wilsonold David Wilson of Squaw Valley (pictured) was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies located him on a rural piece of property along Partridge Lane, between Pepperweed and Iris Roads in Squaw Valley.

Just after 8:30 p.m. on Friday, deputies responded to the home on the previously mentioned Partridge Lane property. A woman told dispatchers that her son, David Wilson, pointed a loaded rifle at her and then fired several rounds at her car. The woman was able to safely get out of the house while deputies were on their way to the scene. As soon as deputies entered the driveway and got out of their pickup trucks, they heard gunshots ringing out. They ran for cover and Wilson, who remained in the house, continued firing in an attempt to hit deputies. The bullets would fortunately miss the deputies, but about a dozen total rounds did strike their two vehicles. Deputies radioed for help and remained hidden until extra resources arrived. They did not return any fire toward the suspect.

The sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, and airplane, EAGLE Three, arrived overhead to try and monitor the suspect’s movements. Meanwhile, the sheriff’s SWAT Team responded and surrounded the home. Utilizing technology, they would later learn that Wilson was no longer inside the house. A large number of deputies then spread out and searched the surrounding area for Wilson. They ultimately found Wilson with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a remote part of the property, behind the house.

No law enforcement officers were injured during this incident. Deputies recovered an AR-15 rifle, SKS rifle with an extended magazine and two handguns belonging to Wilson.

Anyone with further information about David Wilson is asked to call Detective Diaz at (559) 600-8204. You may also contact Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867, www.valleycrimestoppers.org. You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
