August 29, 2022 - Deputies responded to a report of over 200 vehicles involved in an illegal side show at NASA in Patterson, CA.
Stanislaus County Air Support Unit and patrol deputies arrived at the location and vehicles began dispersing. One vehicle, a silver mustang, was seen driving recklessly over 110 mph headed towards Turlock. Deputies never initiated nor did they become involved in a pursuit; however, the air unit followed the vehicle giving updates of its location.
The vehicle continued driving erratically and with blatant disregard for the safety of other motorists. A decision was made to deploy stop sticks to prevent a public hazard. The stop sticks were successful, and the driver slowed down to about 10 mph where he collided into another vehicle in the intersection of West Main Street and Highway 99 on ramp. When the vehicle came to a stop the driver fled on foot and two occupants remained inside the vehicle. The driver was apprehended by deputy sheriffs a short distance later.
The driver of the victim vehicle sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. The driver of the mustang was arrested for reckless driving, engaging in speed contests, and hit and run with property damage.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
