October 25, 2022 - Ten new large fires were reported in eight states, six in the Southern Area, and one in the Rocky Mountain, Great Basin and Eastern areas. About 2,700 wildland firefighters are assigned to incidents. One Type 1 incident management team (IMT) and three Type 2 IMTs are supporting large fires in the West.
Winds and low relative humidity will create elevated fire weather conditions in parts of the Ohio Valley and Plains. Rain and some snow is expected in parts of the Northwest, Great Basin and Rocky Mountain areas. Visit the Predictive Services website for more information about current weather conditions and listen to the weekly fuels and fire danger podcast.
Locally gusty north to northeast winds with low relative humidity will continue this morning across portions of northern California before ending this afternoon. Breezy south winds of 10-20 mph with gusts 20-30 mph amid relative humidity of 18-30% are forecast over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys creating locally elevated conditions ahead of a cold front. Closer to the cold front over Texas, Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas, showers with embedded thunderstorms will develop and continue overnight as they move into the Mid-Mississippi Valley and western Great Lakes. Light showers, and high elevation snow showers, are expected to continue into the afternoon across New Mexico and the southern Colorado Rockies before ending. A Pacific cold front will move through the Pacific Northwest and into the northern Rockies bringing widespread rain and mountain snow.
