December 23, 2022 - SACRAMENTO, CA – At their Board of Directors meeting on December 7, 2022, the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) voted unanimously to allow Kings County to RCRC logojoin the organization's membership, bringing the total number of RCRC member counties to forty. Supervisor Doug Verboon will serve as a Delegate on the RCRC Board of Directors representing Kings County.

Located in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, Kings County is home to agricultural and recreational opportunities. Roughly 87% of Kings County's 890,000 acres are used in agricultural production, fueling the county's economy, and supplying essential dairy products, pistachios, cotton, cattle and calves, almonds, and tomatoes for national and international markets. Kings County is also home to incredible recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, hiking, and visiting local farms.

"RCRC looks forward to welcoming Kings County into our membership and working alongside Kings County delegates to improve the quality of life and opportunities for rural Californians," said RCRC's President and CEO Patrick Blacklock. "Additionally, we look forward to identifying ways that RCRC and our affiliate entities can work with Kings County leadership and staff to support the nearly 153,000 residents that reside in the county."

Founded in 1972, RCRC works with its membership to advocate on behalf of rural issues at the state and federal levels. RCRC provides the rural county perspective on a myriad of issues during the legislative and regulatory process, including land use, water and natural resources, housing, transportation, wildfire prevention and forest resiliency policies, and health and human services. The core of RCRC's mission is to improve the ability of small, rural California county government to provide services by reducing the burden of state and federal mandates and promoting a greater understanding among policymakers about the unique challenges that face California's small population counties.
