December 23, 2022 - Merced – The Merced Police Department reports Officers arrested three persons in connection to an armed robbery that occurred at the Sunnyside Apartments.

On Wednesday, December 21st, 2022, at 10:37 P.M., Merced Police Department officers responded to the Sunnyside Apartments at the 900 block of D Street for an armed robbery that just occurred.

The victim told officers he was approached by a group of Hispanic males and they asked him if he was associated with a criminal street gang. Two suspects pointed firearms at the victim and demanded he hand over his backpack. The victim complied and the suspects left the area in a white pick-up truck.

Approximately 3 minutes later, officers located the involved vehicle near the 300 block of Mimi Lane. John Boyce (18), Jimmy Coronado (18), and a 17-year-old juvenile were detained. Officers searched the vehicle and located property that belonged to the victim.

Officers also located two loaded firearms inside the vehicle. One of the firearms was altered to fire automatically.

All three suspects were arrested for armed robbery, weapon charges, and gang enhancements. Boyce and Coronado were booked at the Merced County Jail. The 17-year-old was booked at juvenile hall.
