TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Full Highway, Rest Area & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 99 & 140
January 12, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-99 and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work to occur as follows;
INTERSTATE 5:
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 2023.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.
STATE ROUTE 59:
- Long-term full highway closure from Dickenson Road/Mission Avenue to Sandy Mush Road due to flooding. There is currently no ETO.
STATE ROUTE 99:
- Long-term full on-ramp closure from Childs Avenue to northbound SR-99 for construction through February 15, 2023.
- Long-term full off-ramp closure from northbound SR-99 to SR-140 East for construction through February 15, 2023.
- Long-term full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at G Street for construction through March 24, 2023.
- Long-term full on-ramp closure from SR-59/Martin Luther King Jr. Way to northbound SR-99 for construction through February 15, 2023.
- Long-term full off-ramp closure from southbound SR-99 at 16th Street due to flooding. There is currently no ETO.
STATE ROUTE 140:
- Long-term full highway closure from Buhach Road to Gurr Road due to flooding. There is currently no ETO.
Motorists should expect five to 10-minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.
This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
