August 24, 2015 - On Sunday, August 23, 2015 during the noon hour Mariposa resident Wayne Harrison Ruport, 72, was driving his 2000 Ford F-150 truck northbound on Highway 49 just south of French Camp Road.
A 63 year old Merced man was riding his bicycle north on Highway 49 and was struck by Mr. Ruport's truck. Mr. Ruport drove away from the accident scene and was located at his home on Bear Valley Road.
Wayne Ruport was determined to be driving under the influence at the time of the collision and was arrested.
He was booked into the Mariposa County Jail for Felony Hit and Run, Felony DUI and Vehicular Manslaughter with Gross Negligence.
The bicyclist died at the scene from injuries in the collision. His name has not yet been released.
Shannon Shipman, 46 of Mariposa was reported as a passenger in the Ford F-150.
