Local Businesses Disrupted by Oak Fire Receive Over $33,000
January 25, 2023 - By Alison Tudor - Small businesses are vital to the Mariposa community. They support our economy and we all rely on these businesses when we have a need. The Alliance for Community Transformations received a $33,950 donation from PG&E aimed specifically at helping business owners who lost everything in the Oak Fire get back to work. This contribution was part of PG&E’s 2022 $1 million to support local communities impacted by disaster as they respond and rebuild.
Applications for this assistance were received during December; award announcements went out to businesses in early January.
The Alliance was able to financially support 23 businesses with this funding. The hope is that businesses who lost their trade tools in the fire will be able to re-purchase some of the items that they need as they support themselves and our community.
Recovery from a fire is a lengthy process. Nearly six months have passed since the Oak Fire devastated our community. The debris clean-up process is almost complete and those impacted by the fire are now able to focus on what their new normal will look like.
For those who lost both their homes and their businesses in the fire, recovery can be more complex as they need to get their businesses back up and running to restore their income and begin looking at their next steps.
The Alliance is grateful for the opportunity to support these businesses. We are committed to supporting our community through long-term recovery. Recovery is expensive. The needs in our community remain enormous. If you are able, please consider donating as we can continue to support those who were impacted by the Oak Fire.
