August 28, 2015 - SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Jim Patterson’s legislation that would deny state funding for Planned Parenthood locations that traffic pre-born baby parts is being stalled in the Special Session on healthcare by the Assembly Rules Committee.

The bill also sought to close the loophole being used by Planned Parenthood to receive compensation for the “removal, processing, disposal, preservation, quality control, storage, transplantation, or implantation” of fetal tissue.

“The party in power has used their strength to silence this issue at every turn. Given the fact that Planned Parenthood receives about $230 million in taxpayer funds every year, it would be completely appropriate to hear this bill during the special session,” said Assemblyman Patterson.

Today the Assembly Democrats also referred the Physician-Assisted Suicide bill to Committee in the Special Session in spite of it not having any connection to healthcare financing, the purported purpose of the Special Session.
Assemblyman Patterson (R-Fresno) represents the 23rd Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes communities in Fresno and Tulare County.
