Updated information per Madera County Sheriff’s Office below this article.

March 12, 2023 - Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials reported that yesterday afternoon, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service for several individuals who were on foot and stuck in the snow on Miami Mountain Road.

Search and rescue teams responded to the area and the party was safely brought back down the hill. It was later learned that they were attempting to get supplies to a family member. We understand that during these extremely challenging times, we are all doing our best. Unfortunately, even well-intentioned people can find themselves in circumstances that are outside of the scope of their abilities or equipment. We urge you to please contact the Madera County Office of Emergency Services if you are in need of ANY type of assistance.

We have personnel staged 24/7 to help coordinate resources for whatever you may need. We do not want the public to put themselves at risk by attempting to provide resources that we have the capacity to help with. This ongoing weather event is not over. Please be safe, and if you have a need, please don’t risk it- just call us. We are here for you Madera County.

We would like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers and our partners at USFS for their continued support and assistance as we all work tirelessly to serve our community.

Our 24/7 team can be reached at (559) 675-7770. For storm resources and information visit ReadyMadera.com.

Updated information per Madera County Sheriff’s Office:

We would like to thank the community volunteers who responded to the search and rescue and assisted teams with providing support to the stranded party. Ultimately, this post was intended to serve as reminder of the importance of contacting our office directly for assistance when the need arises, and we do not want that critical message to be lost.

As a point of clarification, Madera County SAR crews were requested by the stranded party. USFS Law Enforcement arrived first on scene and was able to locate the individuals. Community volunteers later provided transportation to bring them down the hill. MCSO personnel subsequently completed the mission by traveling up to the residence they were attempting to reach to deliver the intended medication and supplies.

As we have previously expressed, we are grateful for the willingness of community members to provide support for those in need during this challenging time. Working together towards a common goal is the best way we can navigate through this storm.
