March 14, 2023 – Kings Canyon National Park officials answers the question people are asking. 

After all the rain, even at high elevations, is there still snow in the mountains? Yes, there is! Employees in the Grant Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park report that while some melting and compaction has happened, there is still approximately 80 inches of snow on the ground, which is now very heavy and wet.

Crews that are living and working in the parks during these weather events are working very hard to minimize damage to infrastructure and report out on conditions. These photos were taken around facilities in the Lodgepole area. Especially with more heavy rain predicted tomorrow, there is much to be done, within the constraints of what can safely be accomplished.
