August 22, 2014 - SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Bill 2073 authored by Assemblyman Frank Bigelow (R-O’Neals) was signed by Governor Jerry Brown and will become law next year.

Assembly Bill 2073 provides an exemption to the general prohibition against alcohol on school property. This bill allows facilities such as community centers, schools and office complexes owned by an educational institution to serve alcohol at events when students are not on the premises.

“Our schools are losing out on extra revenue that could be gained from allowing groups within their community to rent out on-campus centers,” Bigelow said. “This bill will allow local organizations like the PTA and FFA to host fundraisers and events to help benefit our community during these economically challenging times.”

The signing of AB 2073 marks the second bill signed into law authored by Assemblyman Bigelow this year.

“I look forward to working on more solutions for rural California in the coming years that can be supported by a bipartisan majority of the legislature and the Governor,” Bigelow said.
Lifelong rancher Frank Bigelow proudly represents the 5th Assembly District, which encompasses Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Madera, Mariposa, Mono, Placer, and Tuolumne counties and includes Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
