March 30, 2023 - Merced County Sheriff’s Office officials reported that early Wednesday morning, Deputy Ly and Deputy Brown conducted a vehicle stop at Wren Court and Paulson Road in Merced for a possible DUI investigation. During the traffic stop, Deputies noticed one of the passengers throw a firearm out of the window. Shortly after, Deputies detained both occupants of the vehicle. CHP arrived on scene to assist with the DUI investigation.

The driver, identified as Joshua Paul Passons, was determined to be driving over the legal limit. After further investigation, Passons, and the other occupant, identified as, Ernesto Antonio Guzman, were arrested for various charges.
