Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 33, 99, 152 & 165 

April 7, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-caltrans logo5) and State Routes 33 (SR-33), SR-99, SR-152 and SR165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work to occur as follows;

INTERSTATE 5:

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 2023.

            o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

  • Alternating closures of the #1 (left) and #2 (right) lanes of northbound and southbound I-5 from McCabe Road to the Merced/Stanislaus County line for pavement work beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. (northbound) and 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (southbound.)

STATE ROUTE 33:

  • One-way traffic control from SR-152 to Medeiros Recreational Area for utility work beginning Monday, April 10 through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 99:

  • Overnight, full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Childs Avenue for construction beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Overnight, full on and off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at Childs Avenue for construction beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

  • Overnight, full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at SR-140/East for construction beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Overnight, full off-ramp closures from northbound SR-99 at East Atwater Boulevard for construction beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Overnight, full on-ramp closures from East Atwater Boulevard to southbound SR99 for construction beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

  • Full on and off-ramp closures from Applegate Road to northbound and southbound SR-99 for construction beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. (northbound) and from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (southbound.)

  • Full on-ramp closures from West Atwater Boulevard to northbound SR-99 for construction beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Full off-ramp closures from southbound SR-99 at West Atwater Boulevard for construction beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

STATE ROUTE 152:

  • Alternating closures of the #1 (left) and #2 (right) lanes from Badger Flat Road to the Merced/Santa Clara County line for striping beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

  • Closure of the #1 (left) lane of eastbound and westbound SR-152 from Los Banos Creek to Badger Flat Road for curb/gutter/sidewalk work beginning Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

STATE ROUTE 165:

  • Full on-ramp closures from southbound SR-165 to southbound I-5 for pavement repair on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect five to 10-minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
