April 10, 2023 - Merced – Merced Police Department officials report that on April 9, 2023, at 1:38 a.m. the Merced police responded to the 1900 block of Kelly Ave. for a report of numerous gunshots heard. Once there, officers located evidence that a shooting occurred. It was determined that a resident in the apartment complex was walking around shooting into the air for no apparent reason. Kevin Medina (25) was identified as the suspect. A short standoff ensued, and a less lethal device was used to subdue Medina and take him into custody. A search of the residence was done, and several firearms were recovered. Medina, who is on active parole, was prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was booked into the Merced County Jail for negligent discharge of a firearm, several weapons violations, and warrants.
