Woman Killed in South Merced Shooting 

April 22, 2023 - Merced Police Department officials report that on April 21, 2023, at approximately 7:34 P.M., the Merced Police Department received multiple calls about a shooting in the 1800 block of Grogan Ave. in Merced. Officers responded and located a 20-year-old woman suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Lifesaving efforts were performed but the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim was attending a party in a business complex when the shooting occurred. Witnesses reported seeing an altercation at the party. Several minutes later, a single gunman arrived and fired numerous shots into the crowd of people who were attending the party.

Detectives and crime scene personnel responded and took over the investigation. They are conducting a thorough canvass of the area for video surveillance and attempting to locate anyone who may have witnessed the shooting.

There are no active leads at this time and this incident remains under investigation. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.
