May 10, 2023 - Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 8, 2023, around 10:30 p.m., the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received an emergency call for service at a home on Big River Way in Coarsegold.

Deputies arrived on scene and located both the suspect and victim inside the residence. The reporting party, an adult male, was bleeding from the head and chest as a result of multiple stab wounds. The suspect, identified as Carlos Maciel Alejendre, had a bullet wound in his right shoulder. Both parties were transported to local medical facilities for treatment.

Following interviews of the involved parties, MCSO Detectives’ preliminary investigation revealed Alejendre broke into the residence where his former girlfriend was staying and assaulted the adult male victim with a knife. The victim was able to retrieve a handgun and shoot the assailant one time.

The original assailant, the man who was shot, was treated, released, and booked into Madera County Jail for felony charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
