Mariposa Arts Council BZ1Drew Cameron, Beyond Zero (Drew Cameron's work will be included in In Uniform)

The Mariposa County Arts Council is looking for local veterans, of all ages, to participate and support an upcoming exhibition of artwork focusing on the experiences and stories of those who have served in the United States’ military. Specifically, the Arts Council would like to honor local veterans by creating artistic renderings of boots, helmets, and uniforms worn during their military service. These images will be included in a larger exhibition of artwork titled, In Uniform, featuring the work of nationally recognized artists Drew Cameron, Binh Danh, and Pam de Luco.

“This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to use art to value those who have served our country and tell their stories. It’s exciting to bring in nationally recognized artwork to broadly explore issues relevant to veterans, but the real heart of the exhibition will focus on our local service men and women and honor them for their service. We hope veterans, of all ages, will come forward to participate in this special exhibition,” said Cara Goger, Executive Director of the Arts Council.

In Uniform is jointly organized by the Mariposa County Arts Council and Mariposa’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6042. It will open at the Mariposa County Arts Council’s Treetop Gallery on Saturday, November 7, 2015 with a public reception and run through early March 2016.  Complimentary public programming for the exhibition will include a public talk and an art making workshop conducted by Drew Cameron of Combat Paper on February 11-12, 2016.

This exhibition is funded by the California Arts Council’s Veterans in the Arts Pilot Grant Program and is designed to bring together Mariposa’s diverse and geographically dispersed community of veterans, create opportunities to initiate connections among both veterans and the general public, and bring awareness of veterans’ experiences to the larger community.

Veterans willing to contribute and participate in this exhibition or interested in learning more about this program please contact Cara Goger, Executive Director of the Mariposa County Arts Council by Monday, October 5, 2015 at: (209) 966-3155 or goger@mariposaartscouncil.org.
