Nurture In Nature is a California 501 c(3) nonprofit organization that operates in and around the Yosemite National Park regions. Our mission is to engage and expose children and adults with disabilities to nature. Our aim is to serve specific populations whose medical, emotional or psychological conditions prohibit their ability to engage with nature.
Nurture In Nature’s Vision includes hosting several camps per year. While immersed in nature, our aim is to showcase the empowering opportunities that exist when combining like ages with like abilities. We strive to recognize the individual gifts and talents each camper embodies so that one may experience the synergy of nature and healing. These experiences will provide unparalleled opportunities conducive for healing and self-acceptance through our unique approach of including peer groups alongside nature as an integral part of attaining natural wholeness.
Nurture In Nature lovingly welcomes and invites members of the human species regardless of age, gender, race, religious preference, sexual orientation, medical or psychological conditions, to embrace the potential for self-healing through harnessing the powers of nature.
Our current Board of Directors: Jeanah Nomelli –President; John Kirby –Vice President/Marketing Manager; Debbie Cook –Secretary/Event Coordinator; Miguel Maldonado –Treasurer
Who do we Serve? Nurture In Nature serves adults and children with disabilities in our local and surrounding counties (Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Mariposa, and San Joaquin).
Services provided: Transportation; lodging; meals, including on site accommodation for all dietary needs; on site licensed medical staff, including 1:1 chaperones for those who require regular, acute care; enriching activities (swimming in our wheelchair accessible swimming pool, music program, science projects, archery, fishing, crafts, interactive community vendors, etc.)
We believe in the natural course of healing that takes place by making conscious efforts toward combining similar age groups with similar physical, mental and emotional abilities. We provide a safe, ADA complaint facility at Camp Tuolumne Trails (TuolumneTrails.org), equipped with appropriate, licensed medical staff geared toward the specific needs of our campers. We also recognize the financial strain that many families face when supporting a family member with disabilities, therefore our services are free of cost to our participants. Our fundraising efforts throughout the year allow Nurture In Nature to offset the costs incurred by such an endeavor, making the possibility to experience an outdoor adventure more of a reality!
Furthermore, Nurture in Nature seeks to break down the walls of isolation oftentimes felt by individuals with disabilities. We believe this begins with a meaningful connection with nature and others that share the same obstacles in life. It is our belief that when a person is affirmed, their increased sense of self-worth contributes to the greater common good. We are excited to shed light on the unrecognized potentials that lie within our community of disabled children and adults, while using nature as our gentle guide toward healing and balance!
We are thankful beyond words for the opportunity provided by Garry Trammel and the entire “Z Big Guyz”team for naming Nurture In Nature this years beneficiaries for the 2nd annual “Z Big Guyz Poker Run”(see flyer below). It will be a day of fun and festivity hosted in Lathrop, Ca. at the Eagle’s Nest Harley Davidson headquarters. No motorcycle? No problem…willing parties are able to participate in the ‘poker run’portion of the event using a car, truck, moped, broom (Halloween is in the air…) or any other reasonable mode of transportation. There will be a live band, fashion show, bar, great food, and raffle prizes to win following the poker run in the parking lot of Eagles Nest Headquarters. Please call 209-988-8618 to have your questions answered.
We are looking forward to sharing our ambitious goals and progress with our supportive communities right here in the Yosemite Park region. We are proud and inspired to share the magic and richness of this wonderful space we call home! Thank you for your support!
