TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99, 140, & 152 

March 22, 2024 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 99 (SR-99), SR-140, and SR-152 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 31, 2024.

           o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 99

  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, March 24, through Friday, March 29, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, March 24, through Friday, March 29, 2024, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Winton Parkway Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, March 24, through Friday, March 29, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

  • One-way traffic control at the San Joaquin River / Great Valley Grasslands State Park for bridge work beginning Monday, March 25, through Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 152

  • One-way traffic control from Ward Road to San Luis Street for utility work beginning Wednesday, March 27, through Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
