April 16, 2024 - Fresno Police Department officials report on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 1:51 a.m., Northwest officers responded to Ewell’s Bar near Shaw Avenue and Marks Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers quickly arrived in the area and found 38-year-old Gilberto Gutierrez in front of the bar, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers and EMS performed life-saving efforts on the scene, and he was transported to CRMC. Gutierrez died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Homicide detectives learned that the victim was involved in a verbal altercation outside the bar between a group of unidentified males and females. The incident turned into a physical fight, and the victim was fatally shot by one of the suspects. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Police are asking anyone with information on this case to contact the Fresno Police Department. This was the ninth murder of 2024.
