May 21, 2025 - SACRAMENTO – On Tuesday, Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) joined members of the California Legislative Women's Caucus and leaders from Planned Parenthood today in a press conference at the State Capitol to call for continued funding for reproductive health care in California.
The joint effort comes in response to growing attacks by Congress and the Trump Administration to defund Planned Parenthood at the national level, a move that would block all federal funding, including Medi-Cal reimbursements, for services provided by the organization. Those in attendance at the conference also urged the Governor to preserve state funding for reproductive care.
"At a time when reproductive health care is under attack, I'm standing strong with Planned Parenthood and communities across California to protect access to care," said Addis "As Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health, I know what's at stake – and I won't back down."
More than 80% of patients who visit Planned Parenthood health centers in California rely on Medi-Cal coverage and one in four people in the state has received care from the clinics.
Governor Gavin Newsom released his revised 2025-2026 state budget proposal, known as the May Revise, on May 14, 2025. Assemblymember Addis led a hearing yesterday evening to review the Administration's proposed changes to Medi-Cal and reproductive care. During the hearing, she advocated for transparency and emphasized the need to preserve funding for these essential programs. The Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health will continue holding hearings on the proposed budget adjustments throughout the week.
Legislators have until June 15, 2025 to pass the State Budget.
Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
