Over 500,000 Online Voter Registrations in Final 48 hours before California Deadline

October 26, 2016 - SACRAMENTO – California Secretary of State Alex Padilla reported yesterday that there were 501,206 completed transactions on the California Secretary of State’s online voter registration vote symbolwebsite on October 23 and 24—the final two days to register to vote in the November 8, 2016 General Election.

“Another California voter registration record has been broken,” Secretary of State Padilla said. “On the October 24 voter registration deadline day, more Californians completed voter registrations online than on any other single day in the history of our voter registration website.”

“With over half a million voter registrations or updates in two days, it is clear that Californians are ready to vote. Whether you’re newly registered or an experienced voter, the Secretary of State’s website has a wealth of information to help Californians make informed decisions.”

On Sunday, October 23 there were 203,836 completed registrations or updates of registration through the Secretary of State’s voter registration website. On October 24—the final day to register to vote—there were 297,370 completed registrations or updates of registration online. This was the largest number of online voter registrations ever-recorded in a single day since California launched online voter registration in 2012.

Younger voters fueled online voter registration activity. Voters ages 17 – 35 accounted for 58% of all online voter registration on the final two days before the registration deadline.

The Secretary of State’s office will issue the final statewide report of voter registration late next week. The report will include registration data as of the October 24 deadline.
